Only third grade students from seven public elementary schools have yet to receive their free dictionaries from the Rotary Club of Saipan.

Rotary Vocational Service director Kelley Butcher said in an email yesterday that these remaining schools are William S. Reyes, Gregorio T. Camacho, Koblerville, Tanapag, San Vicente, Kagman, and Garapan elementary schools.

Butcher said the Rotary has already distributed the Webster’s Paperback Dictionaries to Rota, Tinian, Dandan, San Antonio, and Oleai elementary schools.

“We are excited that even though we had to reschedule most of the distribution dates, the dictionaries will now be handed out throughout April,” she told Saipan Tribune.

Butcher, who is also the legal counsel for the Public School System, said the dictionary distribution coincides with PSS’ celebration of Library Month.

In line with this, Butcher said PSS is hosting several activities “to get kids excited about reading and visiting their libraries so the dictionaries tie in nicely with that.”

“April is also the Rotary Parade of Books so this is great time for reading,” added Butcher.

Rotary’s dictionary project this year, which cost about $1,500, is made possible with the assistance of Delta Air Lines, the Rotary Club of Northern Guam with the “SoCal Dictionary Project” from the Rotary Club of Pacific Basin out of San Diego.
