Jeraldine Castillo scored the first goal of the season en route to lifting Shirley’s Football Club to a 3-0 shutout win over MP United during the opening of the 2012 NMIFA Women’s Spring League last Friday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Castillo found the back of the net at the 11:30 mark of the first half for Shirley’s 1-0 lead and the winning team nailed two more goals in the second half to complete its strong start in the six-team league.
Melody Johnson gave Shirley’s its second goal when she scored in the 70th minute and four minutes later, it was Kyla Ito’s turn to light up the scoreboard.

Joining Ito, Johnson, and Castillo on the team are Maica Aniana, Angie Ito, Jhaneeka Atalig, Mikky Vargas, Charlene Lizardo, Marrielle Gariguez, Jeralyn Castillo, Alexa Vergara, Lyvette Lacsina, Reylynn Sapong, Liezel Tiples, Dianne Pablo, Glorily Williams, and Rachel Abrams.

Meanwhile, the two other games in Week 1 of the women’s league were also decided via shutouts.

Paire 3, Tan Holdings 0

In the first game last Saturday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field, Paire blanked Tan Holdings FC.

Newcomer Kelsey Mueller nailed twin goals for Paire, while Michiko Tenorio scored the other goal for the winning squad. Mueller found a hole in Tan Holding’s defense early, making her first goal at the 9:30 mark of the first half. Then less than three minutes after her first goal, Mueller eluded her defenders anew for the back-to-back goals.

Tenorio gave a perfect ending to Paire’s winning debut when she drilled a goal with only one minute left in the second and final half.

Independents 2, Matansa 0

Independents FC also shut out its foe in the second game played at the Hopwood pitch last weekend.

Both goals of IFC came from Pratoom Staffer, who drained her twin goals all in the first half. She broke the ice in the 18th minute and nine minutes later notched her second goal.

Meanwhile, action in the women’s league resumes tomorrow with Shirley’s FC taking on Tan Holdings at 7:15 at the Oleai pitch. Then on Saturday, Matansa will duel Paire at 8:30am, while IFC will go for win No.2 against MP United at 10:30am. Both Saturday games will be played at the Hopwood pitch.
