Bea wins Fil-Taga’s March Ace
Paul Bea topped a dozen other golfers in last Sunday’s tournament at Coral Ocean Point to take the Fil-Taga Golfers Association’s March Ace of the Month.
Bea posted a 47 on the front nine and finished the backside with a 53 for an even raw count of 100 that adjusted into a 68 net score.
With the win, Bea joins the company of February Ace Randy Tudela and January co-Aces Richard Atalig and James Mitchell. Fil-Taga awards co-winners when the turnout exceeds 20 participants. Bea also received a $150 cash prize and an automatic entrance to the club’s season-ending Golfer of the Year Tournament held every January. A $300 cash prize is also awarded for a player sinking a hole-in-one.
Lito Mendoza finished two-strokes back for second place, scratching a 41 on the front before pulling into the clubhouse with a 47 for a gross of 85 that calculated into an even 70 net tally.
Jess Yumul also had a net 70, as he started out with a 50 at the turn and finished with a 48 on the back nine for a raw total of 98. However, he settled for third place due to the handicap-tiebreaker rule.
Meanwhile, Fil-Taga is still open for membership at $50 annually. Filtaga uses a USGA approved handicap system posted on their web site, www.filtaga.com, and features computer-based scoring calculations. Visit their Facebook page to view photos of recent events.
Fil-Taga events are held once a month, usually in the third Sunday.
The group’s April Ace event is scheduled for April 16 at the Marianas Country Club; Show time is set for 11:30am, while tee off is at 12:30pm.
April’s event requires a greens fee of $30 and an additional $15 from members ($20 for board members) that will go toward the prize money.
