The Saipan Mayor’s Office will be providing logistics and manpower support for the 2012 Marianas March Against Cancer, making it the latest major sponsor for the annual event.

Major sponsorship is conferred on companies or organizations that make donations worth $1,000 to $2,999 in cash or services.
The Saipan Mayor’s Office will arrange for personnel to assist with traffic control, security, and maintenance of the track area on April 27 to 28, from 6pm to 6am, at the Hopwood Jr. High School field in Chalan Piao.

“The Saipan Mayor’s Office has been a consistent supporter of the MMAC since its inception a decade ago and on behalf of the 2012 MMAC committee, we extend our gratitude to Honorable Mayor Donald Flores and his staff for their untiring support in the fight against cancer,” overall committee chair Catherine Attao-Toves said.

MMAC is the signature fundraising activity of the Commonwealth Cancer Association, a volunteer-led non-profit organization that advocates for cancer victims.

MMAC is a 12-hour overnight event that features teams competing for various prizes including most money raised, most laps, best baton, best tent, most luminaries sold, and most team spirit.

Participating teams can join in four different categories, namely Pulan (families), Napu (schools), Atdao (government/non-profit organizations), and Pution (corporations).

“Teams are encouraged to run, dance or walk around the track from dusk till dawn in support of the fight against cancer,” said Attao-Toves.

So far, 15 teams have signed up for this year’s event, which marks the 10th anniversary of the largest cancer fundraising activity in the Commonwealth.

The various teams are selling luminaries each in honor of someone who has battled cancer, is currently battling cancer or has lost the fight against this deadly affliction.

“Each luminary is only $5 each and will be placed in a white bag and lit throughout the night,” Attao-Toves said.

Raffle tickets are also being sold for a chance to win exciting prizes from title sponsors, including two Economy Class tickets to the U.S. from Delta Air Lines and a Samsung smartphone with one-year free service from IT&E.
