FSM college receives $4.6K gift
PALIKIR, Pohnpei—The College of Micronesia-FSM received a gift of $4,644.66 toward its Endowment Fund from the Friends of Micronesia.
President Wayne Johnson of the Friends of Micronesia organization sent the donation to the college. In his letter to COM-FSM, Johnson expressed his organization’s “hope that this will be used in educating the young people of the islands we remember with great fondness.”
The Friends of Micronesia was a group of returned Peace Corps volunteers who served in Micronesia beginning in the late 1960s—when it was still the Trust Territory of the Pacific—to the present day. The purpose of the organization is to represent Micronesia volunteers in the National Peace Corps Association, and to help the work of the Peace Corps in Micronesia as well as the citizens of the FSM.
The organization was recently disbanded but it still had funds remaining in its treasury. It was decided that the funds should be donated to the College of Micronesia-FSM’s Endowment Fund. According to Johnson, it was felt that their decision to donate the fund to the xollege would benefit all of the citizens of Micronesia by helping educate young men and women from throughout the area. Johnson also noted that steps are underway to restart the group.
The College of Micronesia-FSM Endowment Fund was established by the college and is maintained for the purpose of providing support for the future needs of the college. (COM-FSM)
