Woman arrested for alleged car jack attack
Police arrested Monday morning a woman who allegedly assaulted a former boyfriend with a car jack and pulled the hair of his current girlfriend at a house in San Vicente.
Jeanette Awas, 32, was taken to the Superior Court Thursday afternoon for an initial court hearing on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $6,500 cash bail on Awas and allowed her to file a motion to modify bail. Camacho appointed assistant public defender Daniel Guidotti as counsel for Awas.
Preliminary hearing will be on Wednesday, March 7, at 9am.
Police detective Flora Danica B. Aguon stated in her report that the former boyfriend was inside his house in San Vicente with his girlfriend Monday when Awas came in at 9am.
Awas confronted the girlfriend and allegedly pulled her hair. The former boyfriend tried to stop Awas. As the girlfriend was calling 911 for help, Awas grabbed the phone, causing it to fall and break.
Awas went outside the house and returned with a car jack that she allegedly used to hit her former boyfriend all over the body. The former boyfriend sustained scratches on the right arm and complained of pain all over his body.
Responding police officers brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for evaluation Awas’ two minor children, who were waiting inside her van at the time.
After arresting Awas, police released the children to the custody of her former boyfriend, who is the minors’ biological father.
