4th Annual JP Walk this Saturday
Walk for a cause this Saturday when you join the 4th Annual JP Walk.
The three-mile walk from the pavilion in front of the JP Center in Beach Road, Garapan to the Susupe Beach Park will be held in honor of John “JP” Pangelinan and will have its proceeds going to the fight against cancer.
Pangelinan, the former publisher of the Saipan Tribune, passed away on Feb. 5, 2008, after a long, brave battle with cancer. The following year, Tan Holdings launched the JP Walk in recognition of Pangelinan’s contributions to the company, the community, his friends and family.
“The company and myself personally have missed JP for the past four years. Each year I look forward to seeing his family, friends, and the rest of the community come out and remember him by walking in his memory and supporting the fight against cancer. The proceeds we raise this year will once again go toward the Marianas March Against Cancer so that their efforts can have a farther reach in our community,” said Jerry Tan, the Tan Holdings president and long time friend of Pangelinan.
Registration for the weekend event starts at 5am and walkers can start heading to Susupe after signing up. Registration fee is only $5. Refreshments and entertainment will be available at the Susupe Beach Park.
Registration forms are available via email from becky_tenorio@tanholdings.com or may be picked up at the Saipan Tribune office or at the registration venue on the day of the event. Payment can be made at the Saipan Tribune or the TSL Foundation.
Last year, over 500 joined the early morning walk, including members of the sports community, namely the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, Tan Holdings Football Club, Shirley’s Football Club, United Knights Badminton Club, and the Northern Mariana Islands Badminton Association. Also present in the event were Pangelinan’s siblings Herman Pangelinan, Sophia Tenorio, and Martina Ada, daughter Christina Sablan, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, and Saipan Mayor Donald Flores and his wife Chilang.
Over $2,000 was raised in last year’s JP Walk.(PR)
