MHS1, SIS2 notch wins in girls volleyball
Marianas High School’s varsity Lady Dolphins and Saipan International School’s junior Lady Geckos (SIS2) each bagged wins over separate opponents in Thursday’s Marianas Interscholastic Sports organization girls volleyball matchups held at the MHS Gymnasium.
Third place MHS1 had little trouble besting its junior varsity counterparts (MHS2) in all three sets, 25-14, 25-4 and 15-5, while SIS2 came out with a sweep in a nail-biter against Kagman High School’s Lady Ayuyus, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-12.
MHS1’s stout record of 10 wins with two defeats strengthened its hold on the third spot and just a game behind co-leaders Grace Christian Academy and SIS’ defending champion varsity crew (SIS1); MHS2 fell to a slate of three wins with nine losses.
GCA and SIS1 lead the six-team field with identical records of 11 wins with just one loss apiece; they both received bye victories on Thursday as a result of two teams dropping out of the competition.
Meanwhile, fourth-ranked SIS2 evened its card to six wins with six faults after the hard-fought win, while KHS has accrued just four wins with eight losses thus far.
