Over $1,000 worth of arts and crafts have been sold so far at the ongoing Island Artist Exhibit organized by the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture.

Majority of the buyers are tourists staying at the Saipan Grand Hotel where the exhibit is in progress at the lobby, said visual and traditional coordinator Darrell Moteisou.

Hundreds of artworks from at least 23 artists are displayed at the first Island Artist Exhibit, which is open to the public for free until the end of the month.

The exhibit features various kinds of artworks, including paintings, photographs, ornaments, accessories, and wood carvings.

“Chinese and Japanese tourists are the ones that buy the artworks as souvenirs or gifts for families when they go back home,” Moteisou told Saipan Tribune.

Moteisou is optimistic that they will be able to sell more items by Feb. 29.

“The hotel lobby is proving to be a great venue for our talented local artists to promote their artworks, that is why we are really thankful to Saipan Grand Hotel for hosting our first Island Artist Exhibit,” Arts Council executive director Angel S. Hocog.
