The growing MP United Football Club kicked off the 2012 spring season in style, holding a rally at the Navy Hill pitch last Saturday.

The club’s players in the co-ed U6, U8, and U10, boys U12, girls and boys U15, and boys U18 gathered at the field for the two-hour recognition and membership drive. Joining them were the various coaches, club officials, Jeff Boyer, country manager of club main sponsor IP&E, and Northern Mariana Islands Football Association president Jerry Tan.

Tan delivered a brief message at the rally, thanking and congratulating MP United players and its officials and coaches for their success in 2011 and active participation in NMIFA-organized events.

MP United’s Vickie Izuka also took time out to acknowledge the club’s sponsors and supporters and referees, including the Department of Parks and Recreation, Garapan Elementary School, Dr. Norma Ada, and Konflikt. Izuka was later joined by other club officials in distributing gifts (towels and other items from IT&E) to players and coaches of the various age group teams.

Before concluding the rally, MP United called on the champion teams for the 2011 fall season. MP United U18 and its coach Brad Ruszala went on to receive a trophy and presented it to Boyer. MP United ruled the boys U18 competition and the 2011 FA Challenge Cup, beating sister team MP United Silver (U15).

MP United Silver was also presented a trophy for topping the boys U15 league, while the club’s U12 squad was recognized, too for ruling the first ever 2011 NMIFA Boys and Girls FA Cup.

Players who made it to NMIFA’s elite list were also feted. The list includes U18’s Best 11 selection members Yi Shan Wang, Dae Min Jeon, Jeoung Joon Lee, Jin Han Yoon, and Moon Bin Hong; U15’s Best 11 Jehn Joyner Ryota Ito, Dakota Hall, Jake Lee, Kennedy Izuka, Enrico del Rosario, John Taisacan, and Gregzon Fontanilla; and Girls U15’s Best 9 Amy Taylor, Seoung Hyun Lee, Hae Ri Kim, and Masami Sato.

The recognition day last weekend also served as a sendoff for MP United players (boys U12, U15, and U18) who will leave for Guam this weekend for a two-day competition.
