Cooking competition to feature 5 authentic Pinoy dishes
United Filipino Organization, the umbrella organization of some 30 groups, has identified five traditional Pinoy dishes that contestants will cook during the cooking competition at its first ever Pusong Pinoy Valentine event next month.
UFO secretary and program committee co-chair Annamae Adaza said yesterday that contestants would have to prepare authentic pork adobo, beef caldereta, tinolang manok, ginataang tuna, and pinakbet for their entries in the competition.
Adaza said the competition is open only to restaurants and caterers with valid business licenses and permits.
Entries will be judged based on taste (50 percent), texture (20 percent), presentation (20 percent), and audience participation (10 percent) since the entries will also be sampled by the audience at the event.
The first place winner will get $300; second place, $200; and third place $100.
Meanwhile, Adaza disclosed that six contestants have already signed up for the Ms. Pusong Pinoy, a beauty pageant open to young females ages 16 to 25 years old.
Slots are also open for food and non-food vendors that want to sell their merchandise at the whole-day event to be held at the Civic Center grounds in Susupe on Feb. 12. Rates for the 10×20 tent space are $50 for food and $40 for non-food. Slots will be raffled off to promote fairness and avoid favoritism issues.
“We are encouraging interested contestants for the cooking contest, the beauty pageant, vendors, and performing groups to sign up and take part in this fun and exciting Valentine event for the community,” said Adaza.
