Pat Taitano raced to the top of the winner’s bracket and took top honors in 19th Hole’s final 8-ball tournament of 2011 held last Dec. 29.

Taitano had to get by perennial champion Pat Cepeda and Norman Tenorio to reach the winners bracket final against Juanette Atalig.

Tenorio took a close match from Ed Suzuki, but shot himself in the foot against Taitano by accidentally pocketing the 8-ball early.

J.J. Atalig sent Phil Fejeran to the loser’s bracket, but left too many openings to wife Juanette.

Suzuki continued his strong play, eliminating Cepeda and getting a break when J.J. Atalig also pocketed the 8-ball early.

Energized by his early loss, Tenorio came back with concentration, cue ball control and shot-making. He eliminated Jack Cruz, Suzuki, and Juanette Atalig, then grabbed the first finals game from Taitano.

As winner’s bracket finalist Taitano had a game to give. Their third meeting went back-and-forth. with both players mixing terrific shots with mental mistakes.

The smooth-stroking Taitano finished the game and match when Tenorio gave him a shot with easy shape on the 8-ball.

Taitano took home half of the pot, with Tenorio getting 30 percent for second place and Juanette Atalig 20 percent for third.

The first 2012 8-ball tournament was set last Thursday. Sign-ins start at 7pm for the double elimination matches. The entry fee is $10.

Sign-ups are continuing for 19th Hole’s two-member Tag Team league. Two-person teams face off in two singles and one doubles match every weekend for a month with the first, second and third place teams splitting the entry fees.
