IT&E Voyagers win Agingan Budweiser Cup
Jonny’s Bar & Grill’s IT&E Voyagers bested X-Tream, 4-2, in Tuesday’s Saipan Billiards Association Agingan Division championship match for the Budweiser Cup held at the VFW Post 3457.
Matches are formatted as a best-of-seven series starting with a pair of doubles matches followed by four singles pairings. Both teams split a doubles bout before IT&E washed away X-Tream in three straight singles games.
IT&E was the trailblazer of the division since the very beginning of the season and came into the tournament ranked No. 1. The Voyagers took the scenic route to its Bud Cup win and capped off quite an impressive run against some of Saipan’s toughest organized competition.
The team is made up of Jao Bernardo, Luis Fajardo, R.J. Mascarinas, Brian Nelvis, Roman Rodriguez, Boyet Saquioco, Jojo Talibong, and Rolly Villanueva.
Meanwhile, SBA’s Obyan Division king is yet to be crowned. Its finals is set for Tuesday night at D’Pirates Bar and features top-ranked Fotten Palau, of Joe’s Steakhouse, up against a fighting D’Pirates’ Pirata band.
Shark Attack packed a knapsack at the start of the contest and went over to Jonny’s where they advanced past division runner-up Crazy 8 and then through third-ranked Home Boyz Five. It would be a nice cherry on top of Shark Attack’s first place regular season finish.
As for the contenders, No. 5 Pirata received a first round bye before defeating the last place 19th Hole Bar-Titans, 4-2.
The SBA also wants to remind all members that following Tuesday’s Obyan Bud Cup finals, the league is holding its 2011 Summer/Fall Season awards banquet on Jan. 8 starting 10:30am at Charley’s Cabaret at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan.
