NMC faculty senate president Griffin retires

Northern Marianas College business department chair and the institution’s senate faculty president Dr. John Griffin has retired after two years of working for the college.
He told Saipan Tribune yesterday that his retirement will take effect on Feb. 17. Griffin said his family will relocate to San Diego.
He, however, promised to come back to the islands for occasional visits in the future.
Griffin said John Cook will serve as acting faculty senate president when he steps down in February until a new leader is elected next month.
Griffin became the business department chairperson in February 2010, replacing Eric Plinske who retired in 2008.
Griffin began his employment at NMC as an instructor and department chairperson, initially on Rota and later on Saipan.
He described all the years he served NMC as a “fabulous experience.”
Griffin is also a retired U.S. Naval commander with more than a dozen awards and decorations during a quarter century of active duty with service from Vietnam to Iraq.
He has also more than three decades of collegiate undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in such places as Japan, Puerto Rico, Florida, Cuba, and the Marianas.
Griffin received a bachelor degree in General Studies in Business from the University of Maryland, a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University in Malibu, a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Troy State University in Alabama, and a Doctorate of Business Administration from University of Sarasota in Florida.
