A fight over a newspaper put a 40-year-old man in jail for beating a man in San Antonio on Friday afternoon.
Yubo Qiu, 40, was arrested on charges of assault, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
A $6,250 cash bail was initially imposed for Qiu’s temporary liberty. He was taken to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that investigation showed that the victim, Guoxi Liang, bought a Chinese newspaper from a store.
As Liang was sitting by the windows of a building and reading the newspaper, Qiu approached and suddenly grabbed the newspaper away.
Liang confronted Qiu for what he did. But Qiu instead punched him on the head.
Qiu also throw a rock at Liang, but missed. The suspect picked up a 2X2 piece of lumber and swung at Liang, but missed again.
Qiu threatened the victim that he would kill him if he was going to call the police. The suspect then fled toward Beach Road on his bicycle.
