Rep. Ray Yumul (R-Saipan) said he is eyeing a Senate seat in the 2012 midterm elections.

Yumul said he does not have a final decision yet, but is putting together an “exploratory committee based on requests and comments from supporters and family to consider running as senator.”

Moreover, Yumul said he has not decided yet under which party he will run. He said the choices are whether to run under the Republican Party, of which he has been a member for years, or as an independent candidate.

In the midterm election, one Saipan senatorial seat is up for grabs—the one currently held by Sen. Luis Crisostimo (Ind-Saipan). The other senatorial seats up for grabs next year are those of Senate President Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota) and Sen. Henry San Nicolas (Cov-Saipan).
