GCA Eagles put on a show
The week belonged to Grace Christian Academy, as it posted impressive performances in two separate competitions.
In the 2011-2012 Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association Volleyball League, the Eagles claimed the varsity championship after beating Saipan International School in the finals, 26-24, 24-26, 15-8. GCA finished the COPSSA volleyball season undefeated and avenged its loss to the Geckos last season.
The Eagles were also undefeated in the 12-game regular season in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys Volleyball League and will be seeded first in this week’s playoff round.
Still in the MISO competition, the MHS Lady Dolphins swept the regular season of the varsity division of the girls basketball after winning over SIS and Kagman High School last week.
In football, MP United 1 posted a perfect record, too, in the boys U15 division of the NMIFA youth fall league. MP United Silver completed an immaculate slate in the regular season after shutting out Tan Holdings, 6-0, in the final week of the competition at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
Still in football, Korean Football Association and SKY FC broke into the win column in the NMIFA men’s league, while Wild Bill’s improved to a 3-0 record after topping MP United A.
In another youth event, the Ol’Aces claimed the championship in the SML Youth Summer/Fall League after edging Titanium, 3-2, in the winner-take-all finals at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
In basketball, PSS/McGraw-Hill pulled off the biggest win of the week in the Shirley’s caging with Dave Sablan connecting on a buzzer-beating triple in their 88-87 triumph over Shirley. Fiesta also prevailed last week en route to its five-game winning run.
In the GBL IT&E Cup, Mobil slipped past Proa, 82-81, while FGC booked its second win after routing Andhok’s, 72-59.
