WSR strikers win boys U12 opener
William S. Reyes Elementary School got off to a rousing start in the 2012 NMIFA Interscholastic U12 League after breezing past Kagman Elementary School, 4-0, last Thursday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
WSR’s Joaquin Saralu broke the ice with a quick goal in the fourth minute before Korey Leon fired home a second goal in the 18th minute of the first half.
Kagman tightened up its defense after the break, but the Kingfishers managed a couple of late goals from Shakobe Rangamar and Saralu in the 16th and 19th minute, respectively, to complete their impressive debut win.
In the girls division, WSR also defeated Kagman, 3-1.
WSR took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a pair of goals by Chloe Salvasa. Salvasa drilled her first goal in the fourth and five minutes later, she scored anew.
Kagman’s Sweetalen Willy found the back of the net in the ninth minute of the second half to move within one. Kagman tried to equalize, but committed a defensive lapse, giving WSR a free goal.
Meanwhile, two more games were played in the opening day of the NMIFA U12 league.
In the girls division, Koblerville Elementary School forced a 2-2 draw against Oleai Elementary School.
The Turtles took a 2-0 lead at halftime, but the Lady Umangs recovered and managed a stalemate after getting one goal each from Renita Fleming and Joeny Villagomez.
In the boys division Oleai led Koblerville midway in the second half off Bada Lee’s twin goals, 2-0. The final results of the boys game were unavailable at press time.
The U12 league will resume on Monday with four games at the Hopwood pitch, starting at 3:30pm.
