A woman who was allegedly beaten up and choked by her boyfriend with a PVC pipe in March was arrested Tuesday for allegedly smashing the windshields of her boyfriend’s car.

Amanda O. Kaipat, 23, was arrested for criminal mischief and disturbing the peace.

Assistant public defender Douglas Hartig recused himself from representing Kaipat as the Public Defender’s Office serves as counsel for her boyfriend, Christopher R. Dela Cruz, in the previous incident where she was the alleged victim.

Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman said that the court will appoint a private counsel for Kaipat.

Her bail was set at $1,500 cash. Preliminary hearing is on Nov. 9, 2011, at 9am.

Detective Elias Saralu told the court that Kaipat, in a fit of jealousy, used a belt to smash both front and rear windshields of Dela Cruz’s car that was parked in front of an apartment in Chalan Kanoa Tuesday morning.

Last March, Kaipat sustained multiple injuries after Dela Cruz allegedly beat her up and choked her with a PVC pipe at his residence in Kagman.

Dela Cruz, 28, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. He is out on bail. The case is still pending.
