Lady Ayuyus get revenge over SIS
Kagman High School’s Lady Ayuyus avenged their first round loss to Saipan International School after recording a 32-23 win in their second meeting in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League last Tuesday at the the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Third time was a charm for the Ayuyus, who finally broke into the win column after a 0-2 start, while SIS dropped two matches in a row since its victory in the opening day.
Kagman’s Anna Ada and Patsy Jetley scored four points apiece in the opening 10 minutes, helping the Lady Ayuyus build an 8-4 lead.
The Lady Geckos battled back in the second quarter and held the Lady Ayuyus to just one basket in that period. Jeanna Bracken, Zoe Jewell, and Amber Roberts teamed up on offense for SIS in the second frame to put their team ahead at halftime, 18-12.
Kagman regrouped defensively after the break and turned the table on SIS in the third quarter, containing its rival to one field goal to force a deadlock, 20-all. On offense, the Lady Ayuyus shared the ball in the third period to recover and keep their hopes alive for their first win.
In the fourth and final canto, Kagman stuck to its defense-oriented game plan, stuffing SIS again to just two points at crunch time.
Ada and Jetley finished with 10 points apiece in the game, while Jewell managed 11 on the short end.
Regular season games in the MISO caging continue today with Saipan Southern High School’s Lady Manta Rays taking on the MHS Lady Dolphins in the junior varsity match at 4:30pm. The varsity game between MHS and Southern will be played at 5:30pm.
The MHS varsity team is undefeated in three games for the lead, while Southern is seated second place in the standings with its 2-1 record.
In the junior varsity standings, Southern is unbeaten in two games, while MHS holds an even 1-1 card. Kagman holds a 0-2 slate.
