Don’t delay PUC
In the matter of GTA’s application for certificate of public convenience and necessity, in order to provide competitive local exchange telecommunications services in the Commonwealth, I was pleased to read the “Memorandum Order” that was penned by the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission Hearing Examiner, Mr. Harry Boertzel, who rightfully granted GTA its rights to proceed with its plan to provide “intrastate” facilities based and resold telecommunications services in the Commonwealth.
In the order, the Hearing Examiner clearly stated: “Further delay in the issuance of GTA’s certificate, which is intended to foster competition, would be unfair and counterproductive to this policy goal.”
Therefore, I strongly urge that the PUC sign the Hearing Examiner’s already prepared “Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity” without delay. The residents of the Commonwealth deserve more competitive telecommunication facilities, so that no company in the CNMI can monopolize the pricing and services provided.
GTA’s success on Guam can now be extended to the entire Commonwealth, and the Saipan-Rota-Tinian winners will be plenty. Don’t delay PUC.
