The Division of Environment Quality has red-flagged Jeffry’s Beach and is advising the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of this location for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified. DEQ said that samples collected from this beach had excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. These bacteria can indicate the presence of human and animal waste in the water. Water samples were taken from 12 locations on Saipan this week. For more information, contact DEQ at 664-8500. (DEQ)
[B]Navy, Marines, Air Force training on FDM, Warning Area-517[/B]SANTA RITA, Guam—The U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on the following dates and times:
-Oct. 17, from 8am to 8pm
-Oct. 18, from 7am to 11pm
-Oct. 19, from 7am to 10pm
-Oct. 20, from 7am to 1am
-Oct. 21, from 7am to 9pm
The U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps will also conduct training at Warning Area 517 (W-517) on Oct. 17–21, from 7am to 1am.
The public—especially fisherman, commercial pilots and marine tour operators—are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.
W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. [I](PR)[/I]
