Hearing set on four health corp. board nominees
The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations set yesterday an Oct. 12 public hearing on Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s four nominees to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. board of directors.
Sen. Frank Cruz (R-Tinian) set the public hearing immediately after the Senate received on Thursday the names of the governor’s nominees.
Senate President Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota) reiterated yesterday the need to expedite the confirmation process for the four nominees because their job helps ensure the delivery of healthcare.
The nominees are Joaquin S. Torres and Roy T. Rios representing Saipan, Anthony H. Aguon representing Tinian, and Pedro Q. Dela Cruz representing Rota.
The public hearing will be on Wednesday, 10am, in the Senate chamber on Capital Hill, Saipan.
Cruz’s EAGI panel invited the following witnesses to provide comments during the public hearing: Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Department of Public Health, special assistant for administration, director of personnel management, public auditor, and private citizens.
Members of the general public are also encouraged to submit written testimony before the public hearing. Oral testimony will be received during the public hearing.
If confirmed, each one will serve a four-year term.
The creation of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., which officially came into being on Oct. 1, is expected to provide autonomy and management flexibility to the health department.
