It’s final, the 3rd Annual Shirley’s Coffee Shop Invitational Basketball League will kick off on Oct. 16 at the TSL Sports Complex.

The third edition of the league, which had its opening postponed twice, will have 12 teams vying for the championship, including defending champion Pacific Islands Club.

PIC will team up with players from Aqua Resort Club in battling Pacific Trading Co. Mobil, PSS/McGraw-Hill, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Wushin Corp., GPPC, Inc., Hyatt Regency Saipan, DFS Galleria, Grillin’ Restaurant, and host Shirley’s Coffee Shop.

This season, the 12 participating teams are allowed to recruit five players outside their company.

Games in Shirley’s caging will be played four times a week or every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. In the opening next Sunday, the first match will start at 4pm, followed by the second and third games set for 6pm and 8pm. The opening ceremonies, which include the traditional parade of teams, will begin at 2:30pm. Only two games will be played every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The league will have a round-robin format in the regular season and only the Top 8 teams will advance to the single-elimination playoffs. Teams who have yet to settle their entrance fee are told to do so before opening day.

A mandatory meeting, meanwhile, is set for Monday, Oct. 10, 7pm at Shirley’s Garapan to discuss the final details about the opening and other concerns with the league.
