The Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Oct. 4-5, from 8:30amm to 4:30pm.
The public, especially fisherman, commercial pilots and marine tour operators, are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants. W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. [B](USN)[/B] [B]Friends of the Arts membership meeting[/B]
The Friends of the Arts will have its first membership meeting of the year at the Taste of India/Templa this Tuesday evening, Oct. 11, beginning at 6:30pm. Enjoy some delicious Indian cuisine and great entertainment provided by FOA and Thespian performers. In addition, the board will bring give an update about their planning retreat this past summer and with the calendar of all of events for this upcoming season with the chance to purchase season tickets.
The cost of the meal will be the same as our other meetings: $15 for adults and young adults 12 and above, $8 for youngsters 5 up to 11, and no cost for the little ones 4 and younger. [B](FOA)[/B] [B]FSM Congress confirms FSM’s first woman ambassador [/B] [B]PALIKIR, Pohnpei[/B]—The 17th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia has confirmed the FSM’s first woman ambassador.
Jane Jimmy Chigiyal was confirmed to the position of FSM’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations for which she becomes the first woman Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia. Chigiyal is among the most senior members of the Department of Foreign Affairs with extensive background in the foreign services. Prior to her nomination to the UN, Chigiyal served as the Deputy Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Congress also took up the President’s nominations for his Cabinet positions, heads of agencies and offices of the national government along with the posts for FSM representatives abroad, 23 nominations altogether. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B] [B]Learn how to submit parole-in-place applications[/B]
The Marianas Office of Micronesian Legal Services Corp. is hosting a workshop on parole-in-place on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at American Memorial Park. The workshop will begin at 1pm, and a repeat session will begin at 3pm. It is for parole-in-place for ONLY those foreign nationals related to U.S. citizens: namely those who are 1) spouses or widows/widowers of citizens or 2) parents of citizens or 3) children of citizens of the United States of America. The purpose of the session is simply to help get information out and help people utilize the process as successfully as they can.
Each workshop will be conducted in English. Each workshop is limited by the capacity of the auditorium at American Memorial Park. The dog tag registration is being held at the Dandan fire station from Oct. 3 to 13 (closed Fridays). However, beginning Monday, Oct. 10, the dog tag registration will also be available at the Saipan Mayor’s Office in Afetna. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B] [B]KCC offers online language learning service[/B]
The Korean Cultural Center-Mariana Islands is providing Korean Language Society services. This method can be a kind of online service, so-called “ubiquitous learning,” and is a very effective and convenient way of learning, said center president Daniel Huh. Students can receive various materials and free question-and-answer services. All you have to do is to send a self-introductory letter to kccmarianas@gmail.com. The Marianas Visitors Authority will have its general membership meeting on Oct. 11, at 10am at Fiesta Resort & Spa. The guest speakers will be Mufi Hannemann, former mayor of Honolulu, speaking on “Building a Stronger Tourism Community,” and Lynn Knight of Management Analysis Inc., who will provide an update on the new NMI Tourism Master Plan scheduled for completion this year. Pre-nursing students must submit their applications for admission to the University of Guam School of Nursing and Health Sciences 200 level courses for the spring 2012 semester on Oct. 7, 2011. Applicants must see their advisors and complete the admission application form and worksheet for placement. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or better and must complete of all pre-requisites by Fall 2011.
