ZAPS rules Friday night league
ZAPS reigned supreme in the Philippine Bowling Association-Capitol Bowling Center’s 29th Friday Night League that concluded early this month in Garapan.
ZAPS finished the 18-week competition with a 51-21 record, just one win ahead of runner-up Team 6, which wrapped up the season with a 50-22 slate. The champion team is composed of the members of the Zapanta family—mother Gigi, father Ross, siblings Ruselle, Raphael, and Raymond, and the latter’s wife, Laarni.
A 4-0 victory over Jos Corporation in the final week of the roll-offs assured ZAPS the overall title in the 10-team field. The Zapanta family was awarded a trophy and $550 cash.
Team 6, which had Raymond Angeles, Mario Mayuga, Mel Regis, Richard Leong, Simon Manacop, Edgar Marquez, Darwin Gonzales, and Wellington Ang as members, also took home a trophy and $300 cash. Team 6 shut out IT&E, 4-0, in Week 18, but still fell one win short of tying ZAPS for the lead.
Finishing in third place was Ambyth, which had a 40-32 record after a similar 4-0 triumph over Triple L Construction in the final week. Ambyth members were Tony David, Rolly Dacumus, Allan Hernandez, Chris Anastacio, Arnel Ibarreta, Donato Besid, Ron Cal, Ricky Moscoso, and Noli San Luis and they split the $200 third place cash prize.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Jos Corporation and Tropex Garden Co, which had identical 39-33 records, but the former won the tiebreak due to its higher total pinfalls in 18 weeks. Jos Corporation logged 51,119 pinfalls against Tropex’s 50,866.
Python finished sixth in the field with its 38-34 slate, followed by Triple L (30-42), IT&E (30-42), AON (28-44), and Split Happens (15-57).
Besides taking the overall title, ZAPS won two more awards, prevailing in the high scratch game and series. ZAPS had 1,037 in the high game, beating the 970 of Tropex Garden. Then in the high series, ZAPS recorded 2,752 against Team 6’s 2,694. Tropex and Team took the handicap game and handicap series, respectively. Tropex posted 1,138 in the handicap game, ending ZAPS in the tiebreak, while Team 6 earned 3,111 in the handicap series, downing Python (3,107).
