Sonics hold off Rollers 1
The Sonics outlasted Rollers 1, 42-39, in their U19 game in the 2011 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League last Friday at the TSL Sports Complex.
The win improved the Sonics’ record to 4-1, while the Rollers dropped to a 1-4 mark.
Sonics’ Ardrian Palacios and Jimmy Tudela scored four points apiece to give their team a 10-6 edge after the first period,
Sonics spread the ball around in the second quarter to stretch the lead at halftime, 21-14. Melvin Cadiang drained a late three to make it a three-possession margin for the Sonics in the period.
Both teams buckled down on defense after the break, but the Sonics maintained a 27-18 advantage heading into the final canto.
Rollers 1 rallied back at crunch time with six players chipping in on the effort, but the Sonics escaped and kept their winning streak intact.
Palacios led the Sonics with eight points, while Rollers 1’s Jon Cenir finished with a game-high 11 on the short end.
Action in the Rotary caging continues tomorrow with Hi-5 taking on Rollers 2 at 5pm. The two teams hold similar 1-2 slates.
