In an fit of jealousy, a woman allegedly took the registered firearm of her policeman boyfriend during a fight at their house in As Perdido on July 31. As they struggled for possession of the .9mm pistol, the officer allegedly choked his girlfriend, prompting her to throw the gun away.

Jenypy Naim Sambile, 24, a government employee, was arrested Tuesday after investigators determined that she was the initial aggressor in the scuffle.

Sambile, who lost to Tara Namauleg in the CNMI’s first women mixed martial arts match in December 2008, was brought to the Superior Court yesterday morning on charges of possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm. Her bail was set at $1,000 cash and $9,000 unsecured bond.

Associate judge David A. Wiseman directed Sambile to hire her own attorney. Preliminary hearing will be on Sept. 14 at 9am.

Sambile was directed to stay away from her boyfriend, traffic officer Josef Palacios Deleon Guerrero, witness police officer Norris Kwon, and other potential witnesses.

A police report by detective Peter A. Aldan states that an off-duty police officer had contacted Patrol field supervisor John Mendiola on July 31 at 2:55am to inform him about a domestic dispute involving Sambile and her boyfriend, Deleon Guerrero, who was then off-duty, at their residence. When a police officer arrived at the residence, Deleon Guerrero was no longer there, Aldan said.

Aldan said the investigation showed that off-duty traffic officer Kwon, Deleon Guerrero, and Sambili were at GIG in Garapan when an argument erupted between Sambile and Deleon Guerrero. The argument only ended when Sambili drove away.

Sambile then allegedly called Deleon Guerrero and Kwon on their cell phones several times and sent them text messages, where she allegedly threatened to break a police car and another message saying it’s too bad that Deleon Guerrero left behind his gun. She told Deleon Guerrero that his fault was that he showed her how to use the gun.

When Kwon and Deleon Guerrero arrived at Sambile’s residence, Sambile was sitting at a picnic table in front of her residence holding Deleon Guerrero’s police-issued .9mm sidearm on the table. She refused to hand him the sidearm, prompting Deleon Guerrero to wrestle with her for the gun.

Sambile’s father heard the commotion and stepped outside the house.

During the struggle, Deleon Guerrero grabbed Sambile’s neck in a chokehold, causing her to throw the gun away. Sambile’s father picked up the gun and secured it.

The two ended up arguing in the kitchen. Deleon Guererro then left the house on foot.

During his interview with Deleon Guerrero on Aug. 2, Aldan said that Deleon Guerrero told him that Sambile apparently found the gun hidden inside a storage bin.

On Aug. 3, Aldan called Sambile for an interview about the case, but she told him he should not talk to her because she never called 911 and that she never filed any complaint against Deleon Guerrero for any domestic violence.
