Victor Hocog ruled the last two competitions in the VFW Post 3457 9-Ball Tournament.

On Aug. 20, Hocog came out of the loser’s bracket to beat Jerry Soriano in the finals. Hocog drew a bye in the first round and then topped Eugene Borja in the second to advance to the quarterfinals. In the Round of 8, Hocog bowed to Soriano, who then thumped Chester Cuento to gain the first finals berth.

To take the second and last finals seat, Hocog had to survive two playoff matches. He first downed Mike Pangelinan and then defeated Cuento to arrange a rematch against Soriano. Hocog went on to avenge his loss to Soriano in the earlier round after winning the finals.

Then on Aug. 27, Hocog cruised to back-to-back victories after outclassing Richard Santos. In his second victory in the weekly competition, Hocog was unbeaten. He first triumphed over Randy Sablan and then beat Jimmy Wang to advance to the next round. He met Soriano anew in the semifinals and this time won to notch the first finals ticket.

Santos challenged Hocog in the finals after winning in the loser’s bracket semis against Borja. (PR)
