Rose Dance School will mark its second anniversary with a program on Sept. 3, highlighting the significance of dance in achieving a sound mind and body.

Carol Wong Chan, who co-manages the family-owned dance school located on the second floor of Canton Restaurant, revealed in an interview how much she loves dancing.

“My sisters and I, we all love ballroom dancing,” Chan told Saipan Tribune, referring to Anna Chan and Rose Chan, the school’s namesake.

This love for dancing, Chan said, led them to open Rose Dance School, which offers aerobics, ballroom, and Latin dance classes.

Chan emphasized that dancing is not only a fun activity but it also provides a lot of benefits for those who do it regularly.

Chan said that dancing burns up to 400 calories per hour, increases energy levels, increases flexibility, sharpens coordination and reaction time, improves posture, attitude and mental health, and helps reduce stress levels.

To convey the importance of dancing, Chan said they took part in the highly successful Wise Women Village Project of the Department of Public Health, reaching out to more women in the community.

“We started out with doing just aerobics but it wasn’t exciting,” Chan disclosed. “So we decided to put more dance moves and make it more interesting.”

Chan is inviting the community to join them in their anniversary program, to be held in their dance studio at 8pm.

An entrance fee of $3, inclusive of one drink, will be charged for each guest.

Chan also encouraged them to enroll in any of their dance classes. Aerobics classes are held at the 4-H Club in Susupe Monday to Friday, from 7pm to 8:30pm, for only $1 per visit. Aerobics classes are also available at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan from Monday to Thursday, 6pm to 7:30pm.

Ballroom and Latin Dance classes, meanwhile, are available for special groups and are held Monday to Saturday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Individual lessons are also available by appointment and cost $50 per four sessions.

Chan added that Friday nights are ballroom nights at Rose Dance School. An entrance fee of $5, inclusive of one drink, is charged from 9pm to 12:30am. Ballroom classes are also available on Saturdays from 6pm to 8pm.

“Come and join us in celebrating our second anniversary by dancing the night away,” said Chan.
