Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan was recently presented with a special award by a widely popular Japanese travel company for being the top hotel of choice among its customers.

Rakuten Travel Inc., which operates Japan’s largest online hotel reservation website, bestowed the 2010 Diamond Award for Saipan on Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan in June.

Junichi Kitagawa, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan Sales & Marketing director, said the award covers the period from April 2010 to March 2011. Saipan World Resort came in second place.

The Diamond Award, Kitagawa said, indicates that Fiesta Resort & Spa is the No. 1 hotel for Rakuten Travel Inc.’s customers.

“It’s our first time to receive the Diamond Award,” he told Saipan Tribune. “We’re very happy and very proud about it.”

According to Kitagawa, Fiesta Resort & Spa was able to accommodate some 1,500 visitors and guests who booked through Rakuten Travel Inc.

Rakuten Travel Inc. has over 1.8 million room nights booked per month. It is a subsidiary of Rakuten, Inc., one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive Internet service companies, providing leading services in e-commerce, portal & media, travel, financial services, and professional sports.

Kitagawa said that most Japanese vacationers prefer to decide on their hotels and check in through the Internet because it’s a lot more convenient.

He said these travelers who stayed at Fiesta Resort & Spa possibly posted their experience at Fiesta on the Rakuten website as well as brochures and guide books about Saipan.

Kitagawa said positive comments about Fiesta Resort & Spa have prompted more travelers visiting the island to stay in the hotel, making it popular among Rakuten customers.

“I believe Fiesta Resort & Spa is a very good choice for tourists because of its location. We’re located in downtown Garapan, which is in the center of activity on Saipan,” he said.

Kitagawa added that rooms in the higher floors of the hotel are also the most popular among guests as these provide a nice view overlooking one of Saipan’s wonderful beaches.

The director also takes pride in the “Hafa Adai spirit” of Fiesta Resort’s hotel staff. “We always strive to provide our customers with the Fiesta hospitality,” he said.

Kitagawa said Fiesta Resort & Spa currently has a 78-percent room occupancy rate, composed mainly of Japanese and Korean tourists.

“These tourist markets are growing, that’s why we have Japanese and Korean speaking staff so we can cater to their needs,” he said, adding that they also have employees that speak Chinese.

Kitagawa vowed that Fiesta Resort & Spa will continue to provide its customers with quality accommodation to make their stay on island a memorable one.

“At Fiesta Resort & Spa, our customers are treated like royalty.”
