Namfrel/Proa had a walk in the park against NMBA/MDX, nailing a 105-61 win in the UFO Inter-Organization Basketball Friendship League 2011 Bud Cup on Tuesday night at the TSL Sports Complex.

The 44-point victory extended Proa’s unbeaten streak to three. The Rufino Aguon-coached Namfrel is the lone undefeated squad in the nine-team field, while NMBA absorbed their third loss in four games.

NMBA/MDX never led in the match, as Proa surged to a quick 8-0 start in the opening quarter. Proa began the game with its powerhouse starting five composed of Quincy Johnson, Pete Iguel, Dan Barcinas, Jack Lizama, and Mike Babauta. The quintet went on to give Proa a double-digit lead before sitting out in the last four minutes of the first quarter.

With its second unit finishing the first quarter, Namfrel enjoyed a nine-point lead, 22-13. Aguon’s second stringers continued playing in the second quarter and kept the driver’s seat, but they couldn’t pull away completely. NMBA’s Randy Mungcal and Dennis Morales hit several baskets to keep their team afloat in the second period.

Then in the last three and a half minutes of the second canto, Aguon brought his starting five back on the floor and the group went on to do the damage for Proa. Namfrel’s lead ballooned to 19 at the break, 48-29.

NMBA fell on a deep hole early in the game, as it was rattled by Proa’s backcourt pressure defense, resulting in numerous fastbreak plays for the latter.

After cherry picking for layups in the first half, Proa leaned on its impressive shooting from downtown to post their biggest winning margin so far in the season. Proa connected on seven triples in the second half and 10 overall against NMBA’s lone triple.

Kovin Ogumoro came of the bench with 15 points to top-score for Proa. Five other Proa players tallied in double figures, while four others drilled at least two field goals each.

Morales and Muncal had 18 each for NMBA, which played without gunner Jeff Pagarao.

Namfrel/Proa 105 – Ogumoro 15, Sablan 13, Lizama 13, Chariton 11, Iguel 10, Valdez 10, Barcinas 9, Mendiola 9, Johnson 8, Babauta 4.

NMBA/MDX 61 – Morales 18, Mungcal 18, Acosta 4, Montes 4, Timbal 4, Ito 4, Valiente 3, Camacho 2, Detero 2.

Scoring by quarters: 22-12, 48-29, 80-47, 105-61.
