XTERRA World Championship-bound Mieko Carey will be holding two fundraising events for her trip to Hawaii in October this year.

First up is the triathlon clinic on Sept. 4 at Paupau Beach. The clinic will run from 7am to 9am and interested participants are asked to bring running shoes, towel, sports drink, goggles, bike, and helmets. Aside from the practical part of the clinic, Carey will discuss some strength training tips.

The second part of the fundraisers will be the MTB and road bike races on Sept. 18. The MTB race will feature the Banzai loop and will be divided into two divisions. The long course will cover four laps, while the short one will have only two laps. Bikers will begin at Banzai and then head to the Last Command Post, pass the dumpsite, go to Cowtown, and take the Banzai trail back to the starting line.

For the road bike course, participants will leave Banzai and pedal to Suicide Cliff, Bird Island, Grotto, and back to Banzai. The race kicks off at 7:30am and registration begins at 6:30am. Entry fee is only $10 for each fundraiser.

Funds to be raised in the two-weekend event will be used to help send Carey in Maui, Hawaii for the 2011 XTERRA World Championships on October 23.

“I am headed to Maui again this year for the XTERRA World Championship. My goal this year is to be in the Top 10. Last year, I was at No. 13,” Carey said in her post to NMITF’s unofficial website.

Last year, Carey clocked in at three hours, 21 minutes, and 11 seconds in the grueling 1.5-kilometer swim, 32-km bike race, and in the 12-km trail run, crushing her 2009 time of 3:35:44. Carey’s 13th finish was five notches higher than her 2009 rankings in the women’s division. Shonny Vanlandingham, who won this year’s XTERRA Saipan Championship, ruled the women’s race of XTERRA World, stunning United Kingdom’s Julie Dibens. South Africa’s Conrad Stoltz was the No. 1 overall finisher in 2010 for his fourth straight victory in Hawaii.
