A Bracket’s 8th Division and C Bracket’s Lyn’s BBQ notched wins against their respective opponents in last Tuesday’s Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League matchups at the Gualo Rai Court.

8th Division defeated Aldrin, 89-75, in the first pairing before Lyn’s BBQ took over and mopped the floor with Marianas Water, 76-61, after a competitive opening quarter.

Right out of the gate in the first match, 8th Division jumped out to a 26-7 lead thanks largely to 15 points by frontman Dan Mateo.

Aldrin’s offense showed up in the second quarter, but 8th Division obliged the former and maintained a healthy 47-29 margin at the half.

Mateo added eight markers to go with mixed bench support in the second quarter. Aldrin’s Martin Moreno led his team with nine points in the first half.

Aldrin chipped away at its deficit in the third quarter, but still trailed by double digits, 50-62, heading into the final period.

8th Division ran away with it in the end as Mateo and teammate Joseph Pena combined for 51 points by the final buzzer. Mateo finished with 36, while Ryan Laniyo led Alrdin with 19.

Lyn’s BBQ built an early 19-12 lead in Tuesday’s second game as Manolo Manalo and Dexter Tenorio combined for 11 markers in the first quarter.

The Lyn’s BBQ duo then hooked up for 12 more points in the second period. However, Marianas Water battled back to within a basket, 35-37, at halftime.

A couple of 3-pointers and an 8-point string from Dennis Pacheco helped Marianas Water mount a comeback in the second frame.

After the break Lyn’s BBQ answered with a big push in the third quarter and shot ahead, 58-45, heading into the final period.

Marianas Water was stuffed to just a pair of early long balls for 10 total points in the third quarter and Lyn’s BBQ kept the game out of reach at crunch time.

Lyn’s BBQ’s Manalo led all scorers with 21 points, while Marianas Water’s Marlon Cabrera turned in 13 in defeat.
