DPS: No identity of remains yet
The Department of Public Safety remains cryptic about the identity of the human bones found in Kagman III, even as family members have started hosting daily rosaries for Ricardo Muña Quitugua.
Quoting DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas, press secretary Angel Demapan said the department has no additional comments at this time on the remains found.
“Remember, this case is being treated as a homicide, which is standard procedure until sufficient evidence, assessment and evaluation is concluded and final determination is made,” said Demapan, quoting the commissioner.
Saipan Tribune learned from family members, who strongly believe that the remains belong to Ricardo Muña Quitugua, that they have started holding rosary prayers.
The rosary will be conducted until DPS finally releases the remains to the family.
Elbert Quitugua said that he checked his uncle’s shack in Kagman III, but his uncle, whom he described as a loner, was not there.
The vicinity were the bones were recovered Sunday morning was reportedly Ricardo Quitugua’s daily morning routine path from his shack to the CYC Kagman Market, where he routinely buys newspapers, cigarettes, beer, and other items.
Elbert Quitugua earlier told Saipan Tribune that some people in the area would rob their uncle of food, throw rocks at his shack, and harass him.
Elbert Quitugua said the family believes that robbery could be the possible motive as his uncle has a $674 monthly pension money from Supplemental Security Income.
Ricardo Quitugua just turned 72 last week.
