Twelve Japanese students from Itoda City in Fukuoka, Japan, are expected to take part in a student exchange program this month.

Executive secretary Vinycia Seman of the Saipan Mayor’s Office said yesterday that the students, ages 11 to 13 years, are scheduled to arrive on island for the first time on Aug. 21.

The visiting students will arrive with three chaperones and stay for eight days.

“They will do the usual island sightseeing. We’re also finalizing arrangements for the visiting students to meet with local students from a private school on island,” Seman told Saipan Tribune.

Seman said the visiting students will stay with local host families during their visit.

Seman disclosed that it was Matsutoshi Ozaki of the Itoda City Education Board who inquired from the Marianas Visitors Authority for a possible student exchange program between the two cities.

Ozaki was among the volunteers who assisted students from Saipan who participated in the 20th Asia Pacific Children Convention in Fukuoka three years ago.

“MVA asked us if we were willing to coordinate this exchange program and we said yes,” said Seman.
