Thirty-six members of the Dangjin Middle School Brass Band are on Saipan once more, this time to participate in a cultural exchange program.

The band members, who are seventh to ninth graders, arrived early this morning and are accompanied by two teachers and school principal Hui Tae Kim.

Jun Ho Park of P,Art Music Academy, which coordinated the group’s visit, said the same students were here for a concert at the Korean Presbyterian Church last October.

“The last concert was to celebrate the 2010 Korean Festival,” he told Saipan Tribune. “Now they’re back for a cultural exchange program.”

According to Park, the group is on island for the second time to meet its counterparts from the Saipan Community School and foster a “sister relationship” between the two schools.

During their stay, the group will make a courtesy visit at the Saipan Mayor’s Office, which will also host a welcome dinner party, do a beach cleanup in Managaha, and enjoy local dances and food at the Garapan Street Market.

Park said the Dangjin Middle School plans to invite Saipan Community School students to visit their school in Korea next year.

The visiting group is scheduled to depart on Aug. 12.
