Mayor Donald Flores has designated his special adviser, Henry Hofschneider, as officer-in-charge of the Saipan Mayor’s Office while he is off-island.

Flores, in a memo dated July 28, said he will be off-island from July 31 to Aug. 7 “on official government business.”

In an interview, Hofschneider said Flores went to Honolulu, Hawaii, to attend a meeting at the invitation of the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council.

The Council’s website shows a scheduled meeting, “Climate Change and Marine Spatial Planning Workshop,” in Honolulu from July 31 to Aug. 4.

“Just so it is known, his trip was paid for by federal funds. Absolutely no local or general funds [will be] used,” Hofschneider told Saipan Tribune.

Hofschneider, who is the administrator for the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance, also noted that he is “just overseeing the operation but not making any decisions” at the Mayor’s Office while Flores is off-island.
