Registration is now ongoing for the annual Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit, which will open next month at the Lobby Function Room (formerly R&C Tours office) of Hyatt Regency Saipan.

Angel S. Hocog, executive director for the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, said the monthlong exhibit will have an opening ceremony on Sept. 1 at 9am.

The Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit will run the entire month of September and will be free of charge to the public from 10am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm on Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday and during holidays.

Hocog said the exhibit is one of the three major exhibits organized by the Arts Council. The other two are the women’s exhibit in March and Christmas exhibit in December.

According to Hocog, the exhibit is part of the CNMI-wide celebration of Cultural Heritage Month every September.

“The Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit will highlight traditional and modern arts and crafts from our brilliant artists. There will also be live demonstrations of artwork and craft making,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Because of the diversity of the island community, Hocog noted that the exhibit is open to all artists, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, and background. “We don’t want to close our doors to different ethnic communities on island,” he added.

He encouraged all artists and art collectors to register for the exhibit for free at the Arts Council office in Capitol Hill from 8:30am to 4:30pm until Aug. 19.
