2 nominated for throwing course in Australia
Northern Marianas Athletics development coach Elias Rangamar has nominated two individuals for a throwing coaching course in Australia in September.
In a telephone interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday, Elias Rangamar said he submitted the names of Sylvan Rangamar and John Nekaifes for the CECS III Throws Course that will run from Sept. 16 to 29 at the IAAF Oceania Regional Development Centre in Gold Coast.
The course, according to the Oceania Athletics Association website “is designed to bring coaches together who have completed the CECS II course (or equivalent) and have one year of active coaching certified by their member federation.”
“Coaches will be at the stage in their career as a coach to begin to specialize in one of the event specific groups. The course introduces coaches to the specific planning, doing, and reviewing, aspects of coaching that are necessary to coach the throwing events successfully,” OAA stated in its website.
NMA will hold a meeting today and is expected to discuss and make a final decision on the nomination, which will be closed on Aug. 8.
Sylvan Rangamar has been representing the CNMI in throwing competitions for the past several years and had won medals for the Commonwealth, while Nekaifes participated in the 2010 Micronesian Games in Palau. Both athletes are also volunteers in local competitions NMA organizers.
Meanwhile, NMA’s preparations for next month’s 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia will continue today, as Elias Rangamar holds a time trial for the three CNMI bets to the quadrennial meet.
Sprinter Rachel Abrams, long jumper Trevor Ogumoro, and middle distance runner Douglas Dillay will be representing the Commonwealth to the Pacific Games and will be at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility this morning for a time trial against other NMA athletes.
The Pacific Games will take place from Aug. 27 to Sept. 10 with NMA bets joining CNMI golfers and beach volleyball players in New Caledonia.
