Gordon Odoshi Seman, a rookie police officer who, while drunk, beat up his wife outside their residence in Dandan, pleaded guilty plea yesterday in the Superior Court.

Seman, 30, pleaded guilty to assault and battery as part of a plea deal.

In light of Seman’s early acceptance of responsibility, the Office of the Attorney General stipulated that the defendant’s guilty plea will have no reference to domestic violence. The OAG also agreed to drop the disturbing the peace charge.

Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Seman to six months in prison, all suspended, except for 12 days, with credit for the 12 days he had already served in jail. This means Seman immediately goes free.

Seman will be placed on two years of supervised probation, and required to pay a $100 fine, plus court costs and probation fees.

He was ordered to undergo anger management counseling, alcohol abuse counseling, and a parenting class, and was required to write a letter of apology to the victim. He is prohibited from drinking or possessing any alcoholic beverages while on probation.

Assistant attorney general Peter Prestley appeared for the government. Attorney Michael Dotts served as court-appointed counsel for Seman.

Seman’s wife had arrived home from work on July 16, 2011, at 6:20pm to find her two children crying and Seman sleeping on the couch in the living room. The wife saw an empty soju bottle in the kitchen and an empty can of beer on the counter.

When she confronted him about his drinking, Seman got mad and slapped her and kicked her. The wife grabbed their children and ran to a neighbor’s house where she called police.

Two responding police officers later spotted Seman in front of the Jin Store in Dandan at 10:26pm. They detected a strong odor of alcohol in his breath and saw that Seman could not stand up straight and was losing his balance.
