Guam gets $5.03M for infra projects

[B]WASHINGTON, D.C.[/B]—The Department of the Interior’s Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas, Tony Babauta, signed a provisional grant providing more than $5 million in Capital Improvement Project funding to the Government of Guam for fiscal year 2011.
The funds will be used to continue renovations at the Gregorio D. Perez Marina; replacing aged slips for recreational and commercial boats, improving the Mangilao Department of Public Health and Social Services facility; including the construction of an environmental health laboratory and training center, and expanding the Nieves M. Flores Library facility in Hagatña.
“I am pleased that the department continues to be able to support Guam with meaningful infrastructure projects which will improve educational, recreational, and medical services for the community. I am particularly excited to work with the Guam Public Library to improve their facility, increasing learning space for students and making the first meaningful expansion of the Hagatña public library in decades,” said Babauta.
“We realize that in an environment of limited resources, infrastructure projects such as these and elsewhere, are important to island communities and would not be possible without local leadership and also the continuing support from Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo and her colleagues in Congress.” [B][I](DOI)[/I][/B]
