Wings Travel hands Inchcape first loss
Wings Travel snapped Inchape’s winning run in the 2011 Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League after notching an 80-68 victory on Saturday night at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
Wings Travel improved to a 3-2 record in Pool A for second place behind Inchcape, which still leads the seven-team field despite absorbing its first loss in five games.
Inchcape failed to extend its winning streak to five when it scored only 10 points in the opening quarter and played catch up most of the way.
In contrast, Adonis Macoto and Noel Delos Santos gave Wings Travel a good start, combining for 10 markers in the first period to lift their team to a 19-10 advantage.
Wings Travel’s stretched the lead to double digits in the second period, as other players stepped up. Then the advantaged ballooned to as high as 24 points in the third quarter, as Cisco Cruz muscled his way in the paint and hit nine of his 12 points in that period.
Inchcape made one final rally in the fourth quarter behind the hot-shooting of Gilbert Miranda and managed to move within 10 on two occasions. However, baskets from Mike Cruz and Nate Mateo and four free throws in the homestretch saved the day for Wings Travel.
Mateo top-scored for Wings Travel with 14 points, while Macoto and Cruz added 13 and 12, respectively.
