New CNMI stamp to be issued in Aug.
HONOLULU—The U.S. Postal Service will officially dedicate the new Northern Mariana Islands Flags of Our Nation stamp during a special First Day of Sale ceremony at 10am on Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan.
The public is invited to attend. Collectors will be able to purchase the Flags of Our Nation stamps and have them hand cancelled for free with a special commemorative First Day of Sale postmark by postal personnel from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Multi-Purpose Center.
The ceremony will be hosted by USPS Honolulu district manager Daryl Ishizaki and feature remarks by Northern Mariana Islands Delegate Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan. The stamp will then be officially dedicated by USPS Director of Asia-Pacific Relations Leo Tudela.
The CNMI stamp is part of the fifth set of the USPS Flags of Our Nation stamp series. This fifth set of Flags of Our Nation features the flags of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the states of Ohio through Tennessee. These stamps are arranged alphabetically in strips of 10 and sold in coils of 50. This is the first Flags of Our Nation set to be issued as Forever® stamps. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
Flags of our Nation is a multi-stamp series featuring the Stars and Stripes, the 50 state flags, five territorial flags, and the District of Columbia flag. The first set of ten stamps in the series was issued in 2008. In addition to the flag art, each stamp design includes artwork that provides a “snapshot view” of the state or other area represented by a particular flag.
The CNMI stamp features the flag of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands against a background of sandy beaches and coconut palms.
This fifth set of Flags of Our Nation stamps will be available for purchase in post offices throughout Saipan and across the U.S. on Aug. 11. (USPS)
