A rookie police officer who was arrested Saturday night for allegedly beating up his wife outside their residence in Dandan was finally taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning.

Police Officer 1 Gordon Odoshi Seman, 30, was arrested for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. His bail was kept at $1,500 cash. He has yet to post bail as of press time yesterday.

Preliminary hearing will be on July 28 at 9am.

Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo said the court will appoint a private counsel to represent Seman if the Office of Adult Probation determines that he is indigent.

Assistant public defender Richard Miller told the court that their office could not represent Seman due to a possible conflict of interest.

Miller also told the court that since Seman was arrested Saturday night, he should have been taken to court on Monday, not yesterday.

Govendo ordered Seman to stay away from his wife and their children and to obey all local and federal laws.

In a report based on preliminary police investigation, detective Peter A. Aldan stated that Seman’s wife had arrived home from work on Saturday at 6:20pm to find her two children crying and Seman sleeping on the couch in the living room. She saw an empty soju bottle in the kitchen and an empty can of beer on the counter.

The wife confronted her husband about his drinking. Seman got mad and allegedly slapped her on the mouth and kicked her on the right thigh. The wife grabbed their children and ran off to a neighbor’s house where she called police.

Two responding police officers later spotted Seman in front of Jin Store in Dandan at 10:26pm. They detected a strong odor of alcohol in his breath and saw that Seman could not stand up straight and was losing his balance.

Patrol field supervisor officer Juan Mendiola later arrived at the store and asked Seman why he did not come to work. Seman replied that he called in that he was not coming in because he has a family problem.

Seman allegedly mentioned that he hit his wife. Medics arrived and treated the wife, who refused to be brought to the hospital.
