[B]Tinian scholarship board meeting today[/B]

The Tinian Municipal Scholarship board will be having a meeting today, July 12, 2011, at 3pm, at the Tinian mayor’s conference room to discuss the application deadline for school year 2011-2012. (PR)

[B]Dog licensing resumes this week[/B]

The Office of the Mayor of Saipan will reopen its dog control program, “Dog Tag License Registration,” this week, from July 11 to 22.

Registration will take place at the Mayor of Saipan compound in Chalan Kanoa (behind the post office) from 9am to 4pm (open during lunch hours).

Pet owners are advised to first pay the fees at either the CNMI Treasury on Capital Hill, Superior Court in Susupe, or Tax and Revenue in Dandan then proceed to the registration site. Applications are available at the cashiers. Fill out the application per dog to expedite the process. (PR)

[B]2 from NMI land on EOU dean’s list [/B]

More than 460 students at Eastern Oregon University have been named to the dean’s list for the 2011 spring term. To qualify students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.

The following students from the CNMI qualified for the distinction:

-Lauri Ann Guardian of Saipan

-Rellani Ogumoro of Saipan

Eastern Oregon University serves students and communities throughout Oregon with a special focus on rural, regional, and distance learning. Programs are delivered on campus, online and onsite in La Grande and at 16 regional centers and include liberal arts, business, education and cooperative programs in agriculture, nursing, and dental hygiene. [B]Air Force, Navy training on FDM, Warning Area-517[/B]

The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on the following dates and times:

July 11-14, from 1pm to 3am

July 15, from 8am to 10pm

The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 (W-517) on July 12-13, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The public, especially fisherman, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators, are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.

W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. W-517 supports surface and aerial gunnery, missiles, and laser exercises. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. (USN)

[B]Veterans employment coordinator to conduct workshops[/B]

Guam Department of Labor Disable Veterans Outreach Program coordinator Jackie Nguyen will be conducting employment information workshops from July 14 to 20 in the CNMI. The DVOP is responsible for Guam, the CNMI, and American Samoa. She will also be available to meet with veterans and family members individually to answer questions.

Nguyen’s schedule is as follows:

July 14-16 on Saipan from 9am to 4pm at the WIA office in Capital Hill

July 14, on Saipan from 7am to 9am, VFW at the VFW headquarters

July 17-18 on Tinian from 9am to 4pm at the Tinian Municial Council’s Office

July 19-20 on Rota, 9am-4pm at the WIA Office.

[B]Veterans outreach on July 25-29[/B]

Tina San Agustin, Federal Department of Veterans Affairs Legal Administrative Specialist from Guam and the Northern Marian Islands, will be on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota from July 25 to 29 for Veterans Outreach on Veterans Federal Benefits.

She will be also be entertaining veterans questions and assist with claims. Agustin’s schedule is a follows:

July 25, 8:30am-4:30pm on Rota at the WIA office

July 26-27, 8:30-4:30 on Tinian at the Tinian Municipal Council’s office

July 28-29, 8:30-4:30 on Saipan at the Military/ Veterans Affairs office on Capitol Hill, building 1364.

[B]Hopwood grade 6 and 7 open registration set[/B]

The open registration for seventh and eighth grade levels of Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Jr. High School is set from July 11 to July 29. Parents and guardians of enrolling students should provide the school with all the necessary documents to avoid any problem in the processing of their child’s enrollment. [B]Enrollment info for Kagman High[/B]

To all returning Kagman High School students, parents and guardians: All students must register anew for school year 2011-2012, even if you went to KHS this last school year. The school is updating its records and everyone must re-register or they will not receive a class schedule for the school year. Register before Aug. 19 for optimum scheduling.
