Inaugural RBC-Hoopaholics Family Fest set today
The Rollers Basketball Club and Hoopaholics cagers are kicking off their first RBC-Hoopahilcs Family Fun Fest today at Garapan Basketball Court.
The action starts at 3:30pm with the RBC’s Pee Wee U12 teams, Fotten Gaga and Konflikt, facing of in the curtain raiser. The two youth teams will battle it out on the hard court under two 12-minute halves.
Then at 4:30pm RBC’s U14 Apples and Bananas, U16 A and B teams, adult Madness and Happiness squads along with the Hoopaholics will face off in inter-division play. Matchups will be determined through a raffle format and games will be played under 8-minute quarters.
The Hoopaholics are an independent adult team that holds long time ties with the RBC club. Many of its players graduated from RBC’s program.
“The purpose of this tournament is to challenge the younger players to compete at a higher level, while still forcing the more experienced players to work on their half court offensive strategy. We also want to send out special thanks to Fotten Gaga’s Dexter Mendiola and Konflikt’s Norman Del Rosario for providing the U12 kids with their team shirts,” said RBC head coach Joe Diaz in a phone interview yesterday.
Certain ground rules will be enforced when the adult teams challenge the youth groups. Fast breaks will not be allowed for the adult teams and a special must-pass rule will also be put into effect. More specific details will be clarified to players at game time.
There is no entrance fee, but as a special ground rule, one team representation will serve as a third party referee as the tourney progresses. Other RBC volunteers will help officiate and perform scoring table duties.
Trophies will be awarded to the top two place finishers.
In related news, RBC just completed its RBC “Smoked Meat” fundraiser yesterday at the 13 Fishermen pavilion. The group sold over 100 bags of smoked pork butt for $10 each from 8:30am to 11:30am.
RBC plans on putting on a carwash fundraiser on July 30. The club hopes to hold the event at the McDonald’s Middle Road, but the location has not be confirmed.
Proceeds raised from the fundraisers will go to help RBC’s U12, U14 A and B, U16 A and B, U18, and U25 divisions compete in the Take-Care Thanksgiving Hoopfest on Guam this November.
In addition, RBC coaches Paul Camacho and Fred Litulumar will help conduct summer youth basketball camps, starting this Monday through Friday. Main sponsors for the summer camp include the Department of Youth Services and the Northern Marianas College-Area Healthy Education Center.
RBC members also helped clean the Garapan Community Development youth center back in March by repainting the building, constructing tables, and picking up trash.
Moreover, RBC is currently collaborating with the Department of Environmental Quality to continue its beach clean up efforts and would like to clean up the Pau Pau Beach playground.
Other future civil services include helping repaint the DYS-Parents Education Program Office conference room.
