Mobil’s Gyles Ruluked was selected as the most valuable player in the QQ Car Rental Basketball Cup Invitational League best-of-three finals series after Mobil successfully defended its championship following a sweep over top-ranked Smart Cagers Saturday night at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Ruluked also went home with the Best in Rebounds trophy in the awards presentation that took place during halftime of Saturday’s deciding Game 2.

Other winners include regular season MVP Pete Iguel of the runner-up Smart Cagers.

Iguel also made the cut for the league’s Best Five roster, joining teammate Darwin Barbo, Sonics’ Pedro Lizama and the Mobil duo of Jun Estolas and Marvin Rabauliman.

Konflikt Ali’i’s Jawn Joyner won Best Defensive Player honors; Sonics’ Mike Eclevia won Best in Assists; Prospect’s Derrick Aughenbaugh won Best in Blocked Shots; Blue Haus’ Rodney Sacramento finished the season as Best in Steals; and Ferrera Builders’ James Abuy was declared regular season Three-Point King.

In addition, Rollers-Madness’ Ivan De Vero was deemed Scoring Machine, while his QQ Cup player’s choice teammate, Zack Babauta, won the Best Sportsmanship Player award. Ferrera Builders’ Mike Cruz was also chosen the Darling of the Crowd.

Meanwhile, Smart’s Errol Peredo won MVP honors during the All-Star Game that was featured last Monday, June 27. Rollers Happiness’ Fred Litulumar also topped a field of eight competitors during halftime of the match to win the All-Star Three-Point King trophy.

“The QQ Cup League committee is very satisfied with the execution of our sophomore season. Still, we are always looking for ways to improve the league and are excited to kick off our third QQ Cup season some time near the end of this year. We would like to thank again all the sponsors, the players and especially all of the fans who came out to witness the action,” said QQ Cup league director Rey Perez in a phone interview yesterday.

QQ organizers are aiming to start the third season sometime between September and November 2011.
