Get your caffeine fix at newly opened Café@Casa
Discover a newly opened hangout spot in the Garapan district where it’s worth spending your coffee dollars with family and friends: Café@Casa.
This lovely coffee shop is secretly nestled behind Kristo Rai Church, right where the famous and very homey restaurant Casa Urashima can be found, as the two establishments are owned by the same proprietor, Osamu Taniguchi.
“I am a coffee lover,” reveals Taniguchi to Saipan Tribune in an interview on Friday.
Taniguchi said Café@Casa came about when he hired a new manager to take care of the Casa Urashima after 10 years of running and managing the restaurant himself.
“With the new free time I got, I thought of what will be my latest project and I came up with Café@Casa,” he said.
Café@Casa serves single origin coffee or coffee with a single known geographical origin.
“Sometimes, this geographical origin is a single farm or a specific collection of beans from a single country,” Taniguchi explained. “Single origins are the way to get a specific taste and flavor of coffee.”
Taniguchi disclosed that Café@Casa regularly offers at least three different types of single origin coffee which are imported from Portland.
“We change our single origin coffee menu constantly to let our customers try out different kinds of coffee,” he said.
Taniguchi, who single-handedly runs Café@Casa, guarantees its patrons only the finest and freshest coffee in every cup. “Each of the coffee we serve has a distinct flavor. I believe the freshness of coffee is very important,” he added.
Presently, Café@Casa serves single origin coffee from Duromina Cooperative in Ethiopia, Helsar de Zarcero from Costa Rica, and Sulawesi coffee from Indonesia.
Each cup of about 220ml of coffee costs $5.
Soon, Taniguchi said, Café@Casa will be serving organic coffee and other single origin coffee from different parts of the world as well.
To complement its single origin coffee fare, Café@Casa also serves a roster of delightfully filling and highly affordable desserts at $2 per serving that could perfectly cap a satisfying luncheon.
With the opening of Café@Casa just about three weeks ago, Taniguchi said the coffee shop has been doing so far so good as it already has regulars, most of whom are either friends or Casa Urashima diners.
Taniguchi said Café@Casa will just be a small cafe—for now.
“I’m still observing the market, especially since most businesses on island are down. But I’m open to the idea of expanding Café@Casa, perhaps even serving dishes in the future. We’ll see,” he said.
Taniguchi encouraged all coffee enthusiasts to check out the latest coffee shop in town. “Visit us at Café@Casa and try our authentic single origin coffee with your family and friends.”
