For the first time, Isla Petroleum & Energy made a donation to the CNMI Boy Scouts of America.

IP&E CNMI area manager Jeff Boyer handed the $1,000 check to island director Cal Reyes and district commissioner Wayne Gillespie at the Liberation carnival grounds Wednesday.

“We’ve always been in support of organizations that truly need the funding. I know the Boy Scouts are starting up again so we are giving them this kind of assistance to keep them going,” he said.

Boyer said IP&E believes in the CNMI Boy Scouts of America and its ideals. “The fact that they gave this donation is a good indication that we’ll start a budget for them and support the group again.”

He also said that he had a lot of fun serving as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts sometime between 1997 and 1998.

“I’m considering becoming a volunteer again. If my son is of age, I’ll definitely be part of it again and let my son join the Boy Scouts,” added Boyer.

Reyes said the donation will help defray the cost of the printing of the shirts to be used for their summer camp and the Fourth of July parade.

“Hopefully, with this kind of support, it will give us more reason to work toward the good objectives that the Boy Scout Committee set forth,” he added.

Reyes disclosed that DFS Galleria also made a $500 donation to the Boy Scouts of America last February.

“The DFS donation covered the summer camp registration fee for all boy scouts and adult leaders,” he said.
